Problems with evolution

i tried installing Ximian Evolution through slapt-get as well as downloaded the package from linuxpackages.net, everytime i try to install it , at the end of the script it gives an error message, something to do with not being able to create address-book folders and everytime i try to run it, it comes back with an error. i was wondering if there's an alternate way of running the installation.
i also tried running the installer mention on the ximian website but when the graphical installer comes up it tells me that it can't detect what platform i'm using.
any input would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
