problems with boot script


hello world
i have problem when trying to install intell (R) 536EP modem on my slack 10.2
it compiles
and when i enter the last line
make install this happens:

bash-3.00# make install
rm -f /etc/hamregistry.bin
bash Intel536_inst
running kernel 2.6.13.2
installing hamregistry, used for persistant storage
installing Intel536 driver
unknown distribution. no boot scripts installed
make: *** [install] Error 1
bash-3.00#

how to install boot scripts ???
and one more thing i don't know how to configure mysql server
the matter affect i don't know how to run it either???
help!

Hmmm did you try configuring your makefile? There usually are settings that manage the installation process.

Take a look here. If you have downloaded the driver at the bottom of the page and didn't work, then take a look at the file Intel536_inst to see what it does during "make install" and find out how it modifies the init scripts.

I wouldn't care about the boot script installation.
If the driver compiles properly, just add a line like
/sbin/modprobe Intel536
to your /etc/rc.d/rc.modules
then load the driver manually
and create a symlink to /dev/modem by
ln -s /dev/536ep /dev/modem
Configure your favourite dialer (kppp, minicom or if you like ppp directly) and you should be after.
