Problems with bluetooth (bluetoothctl, blueman, rfcomm)

Hello,

I've been trying to connect my phone and bluetooth speaker to my slackware 14.2 but I'm finding several problems.

My first try was to start the bluetooth manager via GUI, however when I click on it, nothing happens. This occurs for bluetooth manager (blueman-manager) and bluetooth adapters (blueman-adapters).

When I try to open from CLI, blueman-manager says there is an instance already running, blueman-adapters and blueman-applet give dbus errors.

I have reinstalled bluez and blueman as some people suggested in other forums but I didn't have any success.

Then, I checked with hcitool. It was able to find my bluetooth adapter and to scan my devices. However, when I tried rfcomm:

Code:
rfcomm connect hci0 <MAC:ADDRESS>
Can't connect RFCOMM socket: Connection refused
And finally, I tried with bluetoothctl, I was able to scan my phone, trust, pair but not connect:

Code:
[bluetooth]# connect <MAC:ADDRESS>
Attempting to connect to <MAC:ADDRESS>
Failed to connect: org.bluez.Error.Failed
I have checked many forums but I'm not able to find any solution...

Any ideas on how to connect to my devices and to also make blueman work?

Thank you!

To start off with the basics, do you have your /etc/rc.d/rc.bluetooth executable and started? Are you also a part of the lp group (for some reason, that was designated as the group to handle bluetooth by the dbus people... see /etc/dbus-1/system.d/bluetooth.conf file)?

Hello!

rc.bluetooth is executable and started, and yes, I am part of the lp group.

I checked the bluetooth.conf file, and well, I am getting the same result even with the root user :/

What's the output of lspci -v? (assuming that you aren't using a USB dongle for bluetooth)

Try setting up bluetooth from the bluetooth icon in kdesystemsettings as root

Quote:
$ kdesu systemsettings
I was trying to get bluetooth working with no success, but stumbled across this by accident, and suddenly my adaptor was recognised, which it wasn't as a normal user. I did not have the lp group set however, so it may be related to that.

ok, after reading a bit more and trying some stuff I found that adding the user to the groups

Code:
audio cdrom floppy plugdev video power netdev scanner
in addition to lp and then rebooting (not logging out and in) did the trick. Now blueman is working and all my devices are connected.

Thanks for your help!
