Problems compiling the kernel

Hi,

Downloaded and installed Slackware 9.0, with the kernel source 2.4.5, gcc 2.95.3.

I just did a make menuconfig and saved my config.

Now when I do a make dep, I always get the same error:

make[2]: *** [fastdep] Segmentation fault
make[2]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-2.4.5/net'
make[1]: *** [_sfdep_net] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-2.4.5'

Slack is running on a 486 DX/4 with two combo 3C509's.

Does anyone of you have an idea what my problem might be?

Thanks in advance.

W.

You get me a bit confused...Slack 9 uses 2.4.20, and with 2.4.21 recently released, why would you want to downgrade to a relatively unstable release of the 2.4 kernel? Secondly, Slack 9 uses GCC 3.2.2 by default, so it's not a good idea to try some GCC 2.x on it...

So, what's going on?

Hi Wiggum,

Yoy should upgrade to kernel 2.4.21

May I recommend you to use following HOWTO from MadPenguin.org: http://www.madpenguin.org/article.php?sid=306

I managed to installpkg the kernel source from a slack 8.0 iso instead of my 9.0 iso.

I have a dozen of Slack CD's flying around...
It was bound to happen someday.
Whoops.

I'll keep you posted anyways.

Thanks.
