So I went to compile the kernel using your guide, and everything worked until the end, why I found out Perl wasnt installed, oops, everything messed up. So I reinstalled and reinstalled the source, and now when I go through the guide, when I get to "make menuconfig" , it says : no rule to make target "menuconfig" . What could be wrong.
Stupid me, I wanst in the kernel source folder. Oh well. I got the kernel compiled with no errors, but I did have one problem, which Im going to post in a new thread.
PS. I havent noticed any speed differences, I just used the old settings, because I figured that everything was working, should I have done that?
I have a P4 2.0Ghz PC. I was wondering what settings I would have to change to make the kernel compile in i686. When I used my previous settings, it compiled in i486.
