Problems caused by swaret update or...?Help
Hi,
I'll start from the beginning. I used swaret a couple of days ago to update my system - almost everything but the bigger downloads (libc, glibc, qt etc). I wanted to launch them separate. Never mind. The next morning (yesterday) I decided to upgrade kernel to 2.6.9 (it is 2.4.26). Couldn't do it it - panics somewhere in the boot process.
But the problem is I cannot get back to my 2.4.x either... somewhere in the boot process it spits out the following:
Remounting root device with read-write enabled
/sbin/mount: /libc/libc.so.6: version GLIBC_2.3.3 notfound (required by /sbin/mount)
attempt to remount root device as read-write failed
This is going to cause problems...... it gives me some advice on what to do... (reboot, mount system as rw,etc) and continues to load
...and then hangs out at"
starting sysklogd daemons: /usr/sbin/syslogd ide0(3,5):cln-6005: writting inode 10345 on a readonly FS
Is there any way I can get my system back to normal....I think this was caused by updating mounttools (or some sort of tools) but not updating libc.
Please help....

Boot your system using the slackware cd.
removepkg swaret (forever, it's almost ceratin to break your system at one point)
then download glibc and compile from source, check for missing deps when running configure script. also, check that you support the filesystem you're using in the kernel. like, ext1, ext2 reiserfs...blah...blah..blagh

if there was nothing really important on the system, re-install. Just easier.

Unfortunately, justin_p is right on this one. Reinstall this time around.
I would note that swaret has better success running with kernel 2.6.7, in my experience...
Kernel 2.6.9 is still crappy at this point.
Plus, do a search in LQ for shilo's swaret config file. That's the one to use... It works every time, even on older hardware for me.

Thanks all for responses. I downloaded and tried to compile and install glibc 2.3.3 first. No need to say I couldn't do it. Whatever I tried it gave me errors. First it wanted to configure in a separate build directory. And the configure started checking aroung. And when checking for "extention of object files" or something like that it stopped saying it couldn't find them. And compile couldn't go..... so I guess I'll reinstall tonight
Thanks again
