Thumbs down Problems Akonadi on slack 13.1......

I am not sure if its just me or Akonadi will really never work. Anyways, on a FRESH install of slack 13.1 it does not work.

Here are the symptoms:

-Start Kontact, it says that the Akonadi system is not operational. I click "Details" and get this log:

-I use the akonadi control panel (from the K menu) and click the "Start" button, sometimes it starts, sometimes not. Clicking Start again it can start.

-Got akonadi to run, imported new resources into it from existing calendar and contact files (saved on a local HDD) and started Kontact. Kontact froze solid.... Had to use kill...

SO at this point, I am getting frustrated and in need for a solution. I am looking for:

fixing the existing install so it works, or completely nuke akonadi/kontact/whatever else (i.e. kdepim) and obtain a complete replacement with a working product.

Any advice to give me?

Thanks !

Upgrade to Alien Bob's KDE 4.4.5 packages, that should solve the problem right there.

thanks for replying. I failed top mention that I upgraded kde to 4.5.1 from alien's packages taken a few months ago from his repository.

I wonder how can I use slackpkg or any other package manager to "upgrade" from what I have now (4.5.1) to 4.4.5 ??

Strange that you're having this problem with KDE 4.5.x. Hmmm. You could try turing off akonadi, deleting ~/.config/akonadi and ~/.local/share/akonadi (or else just moving them to .bak directories) and re-starting akonadi... better yet log out and log back in.

Tried what you suggested, deleted ~/.config/akonadi and ~/.local/share/akonadi and log out/back in and I immediately went to the akonadi control panel. It says: "The Akonadi server is running" but starting kontact right after the akonadi control panel, it says: "The Akonadi personal information management service is not operational" !?!??!?!

See what you have listed for Akonadi resources... you may be missing something.

SO I have 2 files to import in akonadi, namely my resources:

icalout.ics that is my kontact calendar file (exported from kontact)

&

addressbook.vcf that contains my contacts (all in one file).

TO import them, I started the akonadi control panel (from the K menu) and Clicked "Add". I selected ICal calendar file for the calendar and kept all options as-is. For the contacts, I selected VCard file. Akonad says both files are "Ready".
If I go in the Akonadi server configuration tab, it says that "The akonadi server is running"

Then I start kontact, and go to the contacts page, it says that "The Akonadi personal information management service is not operational." ?? Long life inconsistencies KDE....

Well I ended up getting rid of KDE all together so it solved my problem! Haha

Hopefully KDE gets better soon....
