problem with mp3 files on Slack 11 2.4 kernel

Hello,

Any idea what would make my Slack 11.0 installation stop decoding mp3 files? I get the following errors:
amarok: Error Loading Media
No suitable demux plugin. This often means that the file format is not supported.
file:///storage/music/alternative/Snow Patrol/Eyes Open/Snow Patrol - It's Beginning to Get to Me.mp3

xine and totem seem to share the xine playback engine, so the problem is shared, too. It seems to be a xine library or plugin, but how do I know which one to replace? Or would I just reinstall xine?

Thanks!

does it play with xmms or mpg321 ?

i suggest using pkgtool to remove xine and building the latest xine-lib and xine-gui and before doing so go to MPLayer's website and getting the codecs package and extract to /usr/lib and change the name of the essential_2006xxxx directory to codecs (so the codecs are in /usr/lib/codecs)

run ./configure --help and use the help info to direct xine's sources to look for the codecs in /usr/lib/codecs

Thanks Okie!

I removed and reinstalled xine-lib and it seems to be working great. Appreciate the help!
