I'm trying to setup an internet connection with my Netgear WG111v1 wireless USB Adapter. I've already added its drivers to NDISWRAPPER, and am in the process of configuring the adapter. The instructions I found on the internet tell me to run

iwconfig eth0 ESSID <network name here>

When I run that, I get an error telling me that said operation could not be configured... do you know of any other way to configure this in Slackware?

Can anybody help me with this?

I found the cause:

ndiswrapper isn't detecting that my Netgear adapter belongs to the driver! When I go to the info center, I see a Netgear WG111 on USB 5, but that's it, apparently ndiswrapper doesn't detect it as beloinging to the driver. Anyone know how I can tell it?

I had a similar problem using Fedora Core 4.

For my solution, the problem was that the driver was incorrect.
I downloaded the latest Windoze driver from the netgear site.
http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/wg111v1.asp

When you unzip the driver, there are actually 2 types listed. To see which version you need, I used

>less /proc/bus/usb/devices

and found the listing for WG111
the important line is the Vendor= and ProdID= numbers.

Once I had the correct drivers (get the ndis drivers from the unzipped file), I followed the ndiswrapper directions. When you complete those steps you should have a directory
/etc/ndiswrapper/netwg111
that will have entries

0846:4220.F.conf
0846:4240.F.conf
netwg111.inf
wg111nd5
