Problem to boot with Intel 440bx chipset

Hi folks,

I have a problem to boot my old one HP laptop (PII400 cpu) after install of Slack 10.1.

I get this:

linux agpgart interface v0.99 (c) jeff hartmann
agpgart: maximum main memory to use for agp memory : 264mb
agpgart: detected Intel 440bx chipset
And here system hangs

Any ideas

I too have encountered the exact same error on an okd HP Laptop (Omnibook 4150). I have been able to run other distros successfully on it, but would really like to get slack running.

I think I need to compile a new kernel for it. Anyone have a clue as to how to go about doing this when I can't boot the system?
Also what kernel version shoud I use?
