If have this problem on a laptop too. For me it was solved after using dhclient instead of dhcpcd.
in /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/
change:
Code:
# dhcpcd is the DHCP client usually used by Slackware:
dhcp=dhcpcd
# dhclient is the ISC reference DHCP client, part of the dhcp package:
#dhcp=dhclient
into:
Code:
# dhcpcd is the DHCP client usually used by Slackware:
#dhcp=dhcpcd
# dhclient is the ISC reference DHCP client, part of the dhcp package:
dhcp=dhclient
I just had a similar thing when I installed E17 on 14.1.
Networkmanager would show the available networks but would not connect from E17 but would perfectly from Kde.
I installed Wicd and set Networkmanager to not execute at startup and used Wicd and everything worked perfectly.
I would agree with masonm and recommend Wicd as a good alternative, as a side note Wicd seemed to show more available networks also.
I have problems with NetworkManger 1.2.2 (Salix / Slackware 14.2 default [package) on both my wire and wifi connected computers here on my home network. In both cases the network cycles between being connected and disconnected. I did try changing the dhcp client to the other options available in the configuration file found in /etc/NetworkManager.config.d but it didn't fix it. I recently built and installed NetworkManager 1.2.4 and 1.2.6 versions using the Slackware Slackbuild script and experience that same issue with both. So I switched to wicd which gives me no problems. The Networkmanger package available in 14.1 worked without problems on both my wired and wifi connected computers.
In both cases the network cycles between being connected and disconnected.
I have similar symptoms in my slack 14.2 with Alien's ktown KDE networkmanager. After bootup when Networkmanager tries to connect to my 4G wifi router, connected/disconnected states start looping, KDE's error notification popup says that 'cannot launch dhcp server'.
I found that if i connect once to my mobile hotspot wifi, afterwards stable router connection can be established - until next boot.
