I have been reading the posts here about peoples printing problems but I haven't seen anyone mention a problem printing with SMB (Think that is samba, not sure though) Well, I have tried and tried to get my printer to work through SMB and it wont print anything (currently using the LPR system).....SMB sees my printer and all, and even sends test pages to it but they don't actually print, does this function work (it is a win98SE share from my main system, which, by the way, will hopefully become a Slack system very soon, just wanna be a little more comfortable with Slack first) or am I wasting my time trying to configure it???? Was going to try CUPS but not really sure how to even go about that yet (haven't read the HOWTO on that one) Anyways, if anyone else was able to get this working I would appreciate a little advice.
Also a little off of that subject, As a NOOB I setup everything (desktop environment, icons, colors, etc....etc...) Under the ROOT user instead of making a new user, Now if I want to make a new user, is there a command that will allow me to port over all of my settings for desktop config to my new user without having to set it all up again???
As for the SMB, that's just a transport layer.
You still need to setup some sort of printer
in Linux, and CUPS sounds good if you ask me ;)

Not one command ... however, you could create
a new user, and then, as root, do
I would really recommend CUPS and Samba together, probably more so if you have a number of different operating system accessing the same print queues, but even if its only a few systems it makes things a damn site easier (IMHO). Anything you change in CUPS is simply picked up by Samba If you have postscript printers just make sure that the PPD you use for CUPS is the same one that your printer drivers are using under Windows. The easiest way to do this is to use the PPD from the windows drivers (IIRC you'll want to put it in /usr/share/cups/models [I think]).
