Printer Brother

I have a printer Brother HL 1440

I followed the advice in here
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...php?forumid=14

But when it come to ask what kind of printer do I have, it gave out a list of HP, Lexmark, Raw, Zebra... but none for Brother.

Do you know which one should I choose?

Thanks.

Did you add the correct PPD file into /usr/share/cups/model?
Did you restart the cupsd process?

The correct PPD can be found here:
http://linuxprinting.org/ppd-o-matic...HL-1440&show=0

I have / use this printer via CUPS -- it works rather well.

What is a PPD file?
(Sorry, this question seems to be stupid.)

A PPD file contains the instructions needed by CUPS to interact with your printer (essentially a driver).

A valid PPD file is required for all printers.

Talking Printer Information is great.

I want to thank you for this information. I was ahving the hardest time getting my printer administrator to recognize my Zebra printer driver downloaded from the internet. I have followed the directions on what to do with the driver in Linux and it is now recognizing the Zebra printer driver but I cannot still print to it. The Data light flashes but nothing comes out. I have made progress and learned something that no one else had knowledge how to get the administrator to recognize the printer in it's setup.

Thanks
