pppd ip up

having a small problem here with a pppd call script. I am under the impression that when i give the commang " pppd call gprs " that if there is a file ip up and ip down in the /etc/ppp folder they will be executed by the ppp script, however when i try this the scripts within the ip up and ip down file do not run ? am i running the above command ppp command wrong. ip up and ip down are executable

Basically the ip up script modifies the resolv.conf file so i can connect to the internet via cell phone. Im having to change ip addresses manually all the time and it is getting somewhat tiresome :-)
