PPP filtering question

Hello, I have this problem when trying establish a ppp connection:

>root@Beauty:~# ppp-on
>root@Beauty:~# Serial connection established.
>Using interface ppp0
>Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS0
>PAP authentication succeeded
>kernel does not support PPP filtering

Sure enough CONFIG_PPP_FILTER is turned off in the kernel but
it is "greyed out" ie I can't turn it on. I'm using kernel 2.4.28
and "make xconfig". Can someone tell me what I need to
do to get PPP filtering compiled into the kernel (or running
as a module)?

Thanks,
Roger Young

ppp filtering is used to determine what kind of packets are "valid" in order to start a dial-on-demand connection..

If this isn't what you want, change your dialup setting to remove the filtering option.

Thanks. In fact I do not require PPP filtering so I will alter the dialup setting.

But out of interest, suppose I *did* want it, how can I activate the option to include it
when running xconfig? As I noted the CONFIG_PPP_FILTER choice is "greyed out"

Roger
