possibly a dumb one but: Networkmanager related

Noticed something this evening which I've never really given much thought to in the past, namely in recent years switching between xfce and kde only and noticed that the wicd/networkmanager applets are different but thats as far as it went.

I've recently been playing around with Mate and so it bugged me, both Mate and Xfce are the same, in terms of the icon and appearance but kde different.

Images below if you're not sure what I mean:

My question is really this simple, are all three instances, the same application but in the case of kde, different interface/graphics or???
Or is the kde applet totally different.

thanks in advance...

thats easy , both xfce and mate uses the gtk frontend, and kde uses its own frontend, the deamon in the background are the same.
