please read it i dont know the exact word to use to describe wat i wanna say
hi,
U all must be knowing that every linux runs 6 text mode interfaces and runs one X(ofcourse they are also 6)U can switch them using ctrl+alt+F1 ctrl+alt+F2 ctrl+alt+F3 .... ctrl+alt+F6 u can switch text mode interfaces and ctrl+alt+F7 ctrl+alt+F12 for graphical.I hope u understand wat i mean. so
my question is::
why slackware runs only 1 6 7 of the 12 not the 2 3 4 5 ??.All the destros i used before used to run them also but slackware is not do we have to set something to ge them??.Plz do help me.

Well F1-6 are the virtual consoles.
However you can run multiple instances of Xwindow in a multi-user enviroment.
So say Term 1 could startx & it would be placed under F7.
Then Term 3 could run startx -- :1 & it would be found under F8.
Then Term 2 could run something like this startx //home/trey/games/quake2/quake2 -- :2 & the game would be found under F8.
You have to setup you x config to run like that, but I find it rather handy sometimes.

you must be starting in runlevel 4
(multi-user graphical)
init 3 has all the consoles by default.
if you want them with init 4...
you need to edit /etc/inittab and add
the number 4 to each of the consoles.
