Oh, I forgot to mention that I am using an initrd with LUKS and LVM support.

I'm glad I kept the old initrd's that I created since they come with the old udev stuff.

However, I am having having some time delay issues with an initrd generated with the eudev stuff.

First, a message (within in the initrd) like this appears:
Code:
udevd[173]: IMPORT{builtin}: 'usb-db' unknown /lib/udev/rules.d/75-tty-description.rules:7
udevd[173]: IMPORT{builtin}: 'pci-db' unknown /lib/udev/rules.d/75-tty-description.rules:11
udevd[173]:invalid key/value pair in file /lib/udev/rules.d/95-keymap.rules on line 97, starting at character 143 ('#')
udevd[173]:hint: comments can only start at beginning of line
Then, once I'm past the initrd:

Code:
[drm] Initialized i915 1.6.0 20080730 for 0000:00:02.0 on minor 0
[drm] Enabling RC6 states: RC6 on, RC6p on, RC6pp off
About a minute goes by according to the kernel time info. (58 seconds on my last reboot) before I then see:

Code:
microcode: CPU1 sig=0x306a9, pf=0x10, revision=0x15
Then some more time before LVM starts up along with the rest of the system.

I bring this up because it takes an oddly long time.

The old initrd with the old udev just seem to zoom right through.

Ummmm, you should read more then.
Might learn something and get some insights.

Thanks for your instruction. I wish LQ had an option so that users don't have to react to every silly post. Something like: Did you find this post BS?

Anyhow, we better don't ruin this thread. I will be glad to hear your valuable thoughts privately.

Hi TommyC7. I do not have any problems with the new initrd generated with eudev: they both work flawlessly. I must say that I didn't do anything unusual, only having added the ext3 module for the root filesystem.

Heh-heh, I have an aging Acer Aspire One Netbook from 2009 that's still chugging away with Slackware 14.1.

Are you also using a LUKS+LVM setup?

I've learned some things from reading your two posts, but probably not anything you intended.

There's no longer a 75-tty-description.rules, so you've got at least one (and maybe more) stale rules files on your machine.

Hi Mr. Volkerding,

I've cleared the initrd tree to remove those messages.

I just want to clarify that I can boot into the machine, it's just that some of the things take quite a long time to initialize or finish.

Notably:

Quote:
[drm] Initialized i915 1.6.0 20080730 for 0000:00:02.0 on minor 0
[drm] Enabling RC6 states: RC6 on, RC6p on, RC6pp off
^ That is the last message I read before I wait 58 seconds so that the rest of the machine will initialize.

Everything initializes slower than it previously did with udev so I feel like it may have to do with the kernel but I'm not sure of any methods to confirm this.

Did a clean install of Slackware-current in the last hour on my old Acer Aspire One netbook(2009), applied today's updates to it, and all is well. It is amazing that this unit can run new software.

I just finished a fresh installation of -current on my main laptop using Alien's iso. I wanted to clean up my system a bit and also switch to an encrypted disk. Everything seems to be tip top. I don't see any errors in /var/log/syslog or /var/log/messages. All packages installed without a hitch. Just have to reinstall all my steam and wine games, then untar my LXCs. Must... get... back to.. making... new... SlackBuilds!

Thanks to Mr. Volkerding and the other members of the Slackware team for such a great operating system!
