playing cd's..

Whenever I try to play a cd..using kscd...or any other player...they act as if they're playing...but there is no sound.

Every other media I've tried works (MP3, mpeg, ogg...) so it isn't my soundcard.

Help apreciated.

Thanks.

The likely cause is a missing audio cable between the sound card and the drive. Newer PCs do not need this cable because W2K and XP use digital audio extraction. Players like xmms and I believe xine are capable of digital audio extraction

Also make sure the volume control is set to an audio level in the mixer for the CD player.

ahh it's probably the audio cable thing. I would have never thought of that. It does work is xine. Thanks!
