playing avi's in various players (xine, totem, kaboodle)

Ok, I just wrote up my entire post a sec ago but then something happened and it disappeared. Now I'm just gonna have to make it short(er) and sweet.

1) I can play avi's in only xine and totem
xine has lost of dropped frames and tells me about it constantly
Sometimes totem load's the avi's w/o sound, saying there is "no file" -- maybe the soundcard is being used by another program?
Also, when opening an avi, Kaboodle will load but will not actually load the avi, why not?
This same problem is also experienced when using Noatun.

I did some stuff w/ file associations in control center maybe this is to blame.

2) when loading a cd, its always gotta be mounted before I can access the contents. Can I set it to automatically mount when a cd is inserted? And also to automatically unmount when I hit the eject button on the drive instead of having to unmount the cd and then eject the cd?

Thanks a lot!
