This is the Beta release of Plasma - 25th Anniversary Edition. To make sure that end-users have the best possible experience with the next version of Plasma, KDE is releasing today this test version of the software. We encourage the more adventurous to test-run it and report problems so that developers may iron out the wrinkles before the final release scheduled for the 12th of October.
Plasma 25th Anniversary Edition is a leap forward in the quest for a more performant and usable desktop. We have improved the speed and stability of Plasma, while including changes that make it easier to use both on desktop and touch-enabled devices.
DISCLAIMER: This is beta software and is released for testing purposes. You are advised to NOT use Plasma 25th Anniversary Edition Beta in a production environment or as your daily desktop. If you do install Plasma 25th Anniversary Edition Beta, you must be prepared to encounter (and report to the creators) bugs that may interfere with your day-to-day use of your computer.
Great! I bet our Slackware creator, PV, will do this before offering the new battle jet S-15 to us (I hope!!).
Probably not - from what I seen on ChangeLog, I believe that the Plasma5 is already on freeze for preparing the Slackware 15.0 release.
Honestly, myself I would have loved the Plasma 5.23.x to be on Slackware 15.0 because of its huge improvements on the Wayland, resulting on a behavior almost on pair with the X11 variant.
Today I run on several boxes the Plasma 5.23 Beta with Frameworks 5.86, built by myself, and it is quite stable for a Beta. In fact, I noticed only some minor issues like failing on OpenGL page of Info Center and on Fonts page of System Settings. Everything else is rock solid, both on X11/Plasma5 and Wayland/Plasma5
BUT, like I said, I do not believe that we will have Plasma 5.23.x on Slackware 15.0, because of timing reasons.

Since Slackware is RC1 then most likely Pat might not make any more changes to WM/DEs , if the 25th Anniversary stable should come out still prior to Slackware15.0 (most likely) , maybe it would be nice to have the packages in /extra but ... who knows, it is Pat's decision what he wants to do.

KDE is around 370 pkg to compile
even with his cpu farm, I'm not sure this will be a good thing to compile - and eventualy debug - KDE twice
Well, what should be shipped for Plasma 5.23 is also an updated Frameworks 5.86 or later.
If anything, will be very nice to get it on /testing, BUT let's do not tease too much our luck...
Honestly, I would love it too to have on Slackware 15.0 because compiling those packages on a SD-card, like I use myself for system, probably is not really possible. Probably the SD-card will crash first.

I'd say, pretty please, draw the line in the sand and freeze it at the 25h anniversary.
The evolving development and improvements will go on and on and on

I for one, plasma 5.23 is not a new addition. like when ktown was introduced
So, there is no need to have it in testing
I doubt frameworks 5.86 enter on -current , probably cause new mandatory deps , appstream , and appstream wants libstemmer ... but not sure.
Heavy doubt.
What the heck have Slackware with the Appstream? Of course it is not for us.
BTW, the Frameworks 5.86 compiles fine, and it works fine. Also the Plasma 5.23 Beta, like I said, is rock solid, excluding some small issues on Info Center and System Settings.
I for one, I built it and use it on several boxes. It works very nice.
And I will be quite happy to arrive on -current this Plasma 5.23.x, BUT a Release Candidate means that the system is frozen for preparing the incoming release. So, I believe that Plasma 5.22.5 is what we will get on Slackware 15.0 - as disappointing as it is, at least for me.
Looks like you guys forgot what means being before a stable release or you never experienced it, (re)joining Slackware in the last years.

When i test frameworks 5.86-rc1 , kio wants appstream , and appstream wants libstemmer , but im not sure if that was turned as optional as ever in the stable frameworks-5.86
If frameworks 5.86 builds without problem , im not undertand why is not updated from 5.85 because kio have several fixes.

Man, what part of the word "frozen" you do not understand?
Today, the Slackware -current is "congelado" (frozen) for the incoming release. And as nasty as it sounds, "congelado" means right on "congelado"
Of course that the bug fixes on KDE software will never end - and so happens on any other software from Slackware.
BUT, when should be released Slackware 15.0 ? When they fix all the bugs? This will never happens, then Slackware 15.0 will never be released, then.
Eventually, you may ask for "backporting" certain fixes, if you are aware of them and they could be backported.
This is my humble opinion and I sincerely wish that I am wrong.
