pkgtool unable to remove hplib?

Hi,

I am not using any of hplib-3.13.8-i486-2 that comes with the slackware current distro and I certainly do not like the hp icon appearing at the taskbar (it feels like windoze to me).

So I tried removing the hplib package using pkgtool and I just get "no package removed" message. I understand that there's manual way of removing it, but will pkgtool be able to know that I've manually removed hplib? Does any one experience the same issue? Please help. Thanks!

Did you use this command to remove the package:

Code:

removepkg hplip-3.13.8-i486.tgz

Thanks, Reaper. That works.

But just out of curiosity, why doesn't it work with pkgtool?

I think because the name of the package is hplip and not hplib ;)

my apologies for the spelling error in my post.

but when i use pkgtool, it brings up this screen where i can choose the packages to remove... i don't think i can make a spelling mistake when i'm merely selecting the package using space-bar?:p

HPLIP is for any HP printing and scanning devices, like my Officejet 8600 Pro printer/scanner/fax. This device wouldn't work without this package. Now I don't use Windows anymore since before the days XP came out, but AFAIK, Microsoft has yet to claim a patent of icons appearing in the task bar.

Cheers,

Niki

You don't need to invoke the full package name with removepkg. Simply use this:

Code:

# removepkg hplip
Cheers,

Niki
