ping crashing server

Code:
root@zeno:~# ping -T tsonly google.com
PING google.com (72.14.207.99) 56(124) bytes of data.
After I do that, I lose connection to SSH and I can no longer access the website(s) that the server was hosting. I have reproduced this twice.

Uh?

You never know
One time, I was scanning my local network with nmap and it triggered a kernel panic on a connected macintosh (OSX 10.2), I could reproduce it anytime, seems this issue has been fixed with the OS upgrade to OSX 10.3.

Maybe ask to the host owner about your issue though, surelly they need to patch or upgrade something

I am the host, this is my own physical server in my apartment.

What logs should I check/etc?

I would check any logs that you normally check on a system crash. What does the screen display? Is the local console functional? What distribution & kernel version are you running? Are there any odd iptables rules in place?

Never had a system crash before, so I don't know what logs to check.

I don't use a GUI.

The console is not remotely functional, I will check local when I get home.

Linux zeno.biyg.org 2.4.31 #6 Sun Jun 5 19:04:47 PDT 2005 i686 unknown unknown GNU/Linux

No iptable rules.

dmesg, also human-readable contents of /var/log folder (/var/log/messages, etc). If you had web-server there or proxy they also might have their own log located somewhere.

The last log in dmesg is from the 15th, so nothing there.

Same goes for everything else pretty much (except like messages which only mentions logins).

"uptime" doesn't reset, so it's not a hard crash it seems.

Maybe it just lost network connection ?
I would try a seach for messages about the network interface in /var/log
like: cd /var/log; grep eth0 debug messages syslog
