Ping but no internet

hello,
i am currently using Slackware 11 with the 2.6.19.1 kernel. I have set up the network for my Realtek 8139/C/C+ integrated. The network connection recognizes my the link and i can ping out to servers but whenever i open Konquerer or Firefox it will always say "Server not found"
i went and did an ifconfig -a and the only thing that struck me odd was that the Bcast was 192.168.1.255.
i am still learning the ropes so any suggestion is helpful.

When you ping, do you ping the servers by IP address or name? My suspicion is that you don't have a nameserver set up in your /etc/resolv.conf. Can you post your /etc/resolv.conf?

The broadcast IP address looks okay, assuming the rest of your internal network is set up on 192.168.1.x.

your exactly right i do not have a name server set up... and now that i have set one up it works perfectly!
