What updates? I prefer to stick with the 1.x Apache series. I have no need for SAMBA, but I also recommend sticking with Slackware's releases. Can't remeber what, but I believe Samba is making some changes that Slackware will have to account for in the future. I prefer to leave that type of problem solving to the maintainer(s).

If your just lookin gto sync with -current, search the forum. There are several methods. All have pluses and minuses. I use SWareT. Others hate it.

i guess for now ill just forget updating the server and php... id assume the next version of slack will have it since its in the .test version of the kernel... at this point, better than nothing

If you want to update to php from testing:

1) Download the package (ends in .tgz)
2) cd to the directory you downloaded the package to
3) "upgradepkg php" tab-tab-enter

That's the same for any package. With the php package, you'll also want to look in /etc/apache. There will be a new php.ini-recommended and mod_php.conf.example. Compare those to your configs. Adjust as needed.
