that's all i have!
i'm looking at my inet file and i'm adding some lines to check if i may be failing on those. i'll post in the next 5 mins if i succeed if not then i hope you know whats wrong!
EDIT: hey i just noticed there's no mention of my linksys card in there!!! i did notice one more thing during boot up and thats the fact that it no longer does the whole hotplug thing during the boot sequence where as under kernel 2.4.X.X it did. That info any use?
There seem to be two possible drivers for the same card ... 'rt61' (beta) and 'rt2500'. Can you try using the 'rt2500' instead ? Maybe it is more stable and/or runs faster ?
You can also try running 'netconfig' again and set up your network again (just in case)
EDIT: as for your other question ... perhaps a lesser god or a demi-god (j/k)
EDIT2: if there were a god here ... it would be Pat V.

Well being somewhat over passionate, i think i may have either dislocated my wrist or fractured it by walloping the desk.... as a direct result of being a complete twit! so as of 2 minutes ago i'm typing with 1 hand.
As you correctly pointed out i am indeed running 2 drivers, the first is the windows xp driver under ndiswrapper and the 2nd being the linux driver. the 1st i installed from a .tar.gx file so i have no idea how to remove it and the 2nd well is the ndiswrapper driver and i did the following to TRY to remove it.
ndiswrapper -e rt61
how do i remove both and start from scratch? please help me because i dont fancy having to type with my nose!!!
to remove ndiswrapper, extract the package, go into the directory with the 'Makefile' and as root run 'make uninstall'.
This will probably work for the other one as well.
If you wanted to reinstall all the modules for that kernel you could just 'removepkg kernel-modules-2.6.17.13-i486-1.tgz', delete '/lib/modules/2.6.17.13', and then 'installpkg kernel-modules-2.6.17.13-i486-1.tgz' to reinstall the modules package again (all the kernel modules).
EDIT: And take it easy. No need to get angry, it'll work out in the end.

Hmm, i think i'll choose option number 2 please! at this point i'm condifdent enough to try it, as perusual i assume i can get the kernel modules off the slack disc or the web. i'm going to try and if it works then woohoo!!! if not then we can safely assume it's the twit on the keyboard who's doing everything but the right thing! hahaha
P.S Mr Volkerding is indeed destined for higher levels of existence. we should run an election and see if he's interested in the position of world leader!
This is confusing! Okay i removed ndiswrapper, i couldn't find the folder anywhere on my system that had the makefile so i just removed the whole package, by using the removepkg command. Then i installed the kernel modules as suggested. but it's still really really slow, as in as bad as dialup and then some!
The only thing i haven't done as you suggested is to remove the original driver. As i said it was tar.gz file so i cant just use "reomvepkg" and when i try to use the "make uninstall" from inside the module folder for the driver i get this:
Quote:
bash-3.1# make uninstall
make: *** No rule to make target `uninstall'. Stop.
bash-3.1#
but on the up side my boot options menu works like a charm, i have 3 options in it, my girlfriend thinks i have some issues....she should know she's a shrink! hahaha.
If i remark out the line in my modprobe.conf would that work?
EDIT: Nope remarking the line out didnt work!
But seriously htexmexh again i want to say thanks for being sooooo very patient with me. I can honestly say that under your tuition i have regained the love for pc's that i onced had and held so dear. So thanks an absoloute million your one of a kind.
Depending on how you installed them ... if from source via 'make; make install' then you may be able to uninstall with 'make uninstall'. If from a Slackware package, a '.tgz', then 'removepkg' should do it.
Can you tell me exactly which card you have, so I know which drivers you can use.
You could also try the following, if nothing else works:

Again this is what i got when i tried to uninstall the driver. maybe i'm doing it wrong, i'm going into the folder from which i installed the driver like so:
cd Desktop => Driver => rt61-cvs-2007021311 => Module
and once there i give the make uninstall command but i recieve the error above.
As for the card i'm using it's a Linksys Model is WMP54G ver 4.1. it's recognized by the system as a ralink rt2561/rt61 802.11g PCI
As i said earlier i had the card working perfectly under kernel 2.4 and i have never seen the internet as fast as when i did.
There is something slightly odd, a few minutes ago i was messing around and i removed ndiswrapper AGAIN then according to a post i found in serialmonkey i deleted the rt61.ko file from /lib/modules/2.6.17.13/extra then i ran ifconfig ra0 down then i used modprobe -r and rmmod. Next i reinstalled the seamonkey daily driver and loaded the module and my internet was zooming again, but then i restared it and i was back to square 1. Now i am REALLLLLLLY confused.
I'll give it a try and see what i come up with. In relation to netconfig, it has one draw back, when i run it and enter the information it looks for it removes all reference to my ra0 card and leaves only a few for wired networks and one for wireless but thats a sample.
Thanks for looking that up, interesting fact about the rt61 being a beta. Right i'm off to the link above i'll get back to you!
Really, I'm not quite sure how to configure the card properly. I'm assuming 'netconfig' can do it. If it won't work properly for you, then just make sure you have the card set up properly ... I can't really tell you how to configure it properly, because I don't know Surely there must be some manual or how-to on how to do it.
Oh well i got kind of..how shall i put this politely....f**k3d up last night, after staying up for my 8th consecutive night, playing with cards and what not i decided, lets start from scratch so i poped in my Slackware 11 cd 1 and began to boot up from it. all went well...until it started spewing out errors about file damaged or not found or something along those lines. So i removed the cd from the driver and had a look at it to see if there was a bit of dust on it, well there was no dust but my adorable niece had decided she was going to draw pretty little flowers on it with a cd pen! ARRRGGGGHHHH!!! bleepin kids! i swaer my sister will suffer for ever being born with a womb. Anyway i'm here in my brothers place downloading slackware again. So for the forseeable future i may not be on line, until i get everything up and running. Thanks htexmexh at least this time i can update my kernel and start with CLEAN drivers, the ones you pointed me to. so heres to hoping all goes well.

ROFL ! That's great. Guess that's what happens if you leave CDs around kids
Well after a nice fresh reinstall, i'm back to running kernel 2.4.33.3. Iv'e managed after quite some time to finally get my internet up and running again, but not without some major head scratching.
I installed the recomended driver and right away it picked up my card and assigned it the id of ra0 whch was what it always was.
Next set about editing my /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf file so as to enable automatic connection to my access point. I used the settings i had before any of my problems began. NExt i rebooted and ..... Nothing. Except for the fact that when the system was booting up it fed me back my mac address??
So i undid the changes to the rc.inet1.conf file and started again and after manually entering the following:
