periodic network disconnections

hi everyone. i recently did a large update of my box to the latest slackware-current, and since then, my computer has been periodically losing its network connection. this appears to happen regularly (i haven't been able to establish an actual pattern yet, but it seems to happen about every 10 minutes), and lasts about 20-30 seconds, at which point the network comes back up.

i have been unable to find anything related in my messages or syslog files.

i am running a full install of slackware 10.0, updated with slackware-current (using slackpkg). the only exception is that i am running kernel 2.6.x from the testing/ directory. when this first started happening, i was running 2.6.8.1. thinking it was my NIC driver, i upgraded to the 2.6.9 kernel in the testing/ directory.

i have since replaced my NIC card from a 3Com to a D-link, but nothing has changed, which seems to confirm my assumption that this is related to my software upgrade. however, i have no idea which of this packages could be responsible. any ideas? here is the list of packages that were upgraded (versions shown are the old ones, taken from /var/log/removed-packages):

more weirdness

i've noticed something that i find a bit strange. i've been pinging another computer on the network to try to get a better idea of when and how long the disconnections have been happening. out of curiousity, i also started to ping my computer from that same computer.

when i noticed my connection go down, i went over to the other computer, and it is still able to successfully ping my computer, while the pings from my computer to the other computer are being lost. is this more proof that slackware is to blame?

solved

someone on the network was stealing my IP. they just happened to do it the same time i upgraded my computer.

funny how you work on something all day, and as soon as you post the problem, you figure it out
