I installed a Slackware 10.2 and 11 at a Pentium D 930 with 1GHz of RAM but the system sometimes gets VERY VERY VERY LOW, low as an E.N.I.A.C (H A H A H A), Iīve already recompiled the kernel with the process type set to Pentium but I still donīt get it why is so low.
Both distributions were installed with kernel 2.4 but and I didnīt have sucess at compile the kernel 2.6 and install directly with the kermel 2.6.
Is there any way to install Slackware 11 with kernel 2.6 and itīs source? or a good manual to make a compile the kernel?
you keep saying low. do you mean the RAM is low or that the CPU is slow?
is this CPU dual core or does it have a technology like hyperthreading? if so make sure you recompile the kernel with SMP (symmetric multi-processing) support.
i thought there was a kernel compile guide as a sticky somewhere, i think in the slackware forum too, check it out or search if its not there.
i thought when you select full install it will install the 2.6 source code? if not just copy the source from the installation CD (sorry i dont know what number its on) into /usr/src/linux-??????.

hope it helps.
I think the processor is low, itīs Dual Core and doesnīt have hyperthreading technology, when I recompiled the kernel the only option that I chaged it was the processor type that was select with Athlon and I put Pentium 4.

You shall need to enable SMP (Symmetric Multiprocessing) as well, if you want to get the most of your dual-core CPU. It's under the Processor type and features submenu. When you enable it, there shall be some new options regarding multi-core optimizations and such, read the help for each one carefully
