PCMCIA and sd/mmc card reader relation

I'm using slack current with kernel 2.6.18 and udev
When I inserted a SD card into card reeader dmesg says that "pccard: pcmcia card inserted into slot 0" and does not create any device like sda or whatever
is this normal?
And how can i get my card reader work

when i insert the card into the card reader I see this on dmesg

mmcblk0: mmc0:a7fc SD256 247040KiB
mmcblk0: p1

and fdisk will show sum like /dev/mmcblk0

did you compile the kernel with mmc/sd modules?
