PC Upgrade time.......

Its time for my to upgrade and here is what I have picked out.

I'll be dual booting with Slackware and XP. For some gaming purposes. Just wondering if the hardware I have picked out will run alright with Slack or Linux. Hope I placed this in the right area. I'm running Slack so that is the reason why its here. Not sure if I should have put it in the "hardware" section or not.

Thanks for the advice a head of time.

should be okay - if you want to run a 64bit OS, I think Mandrake, SuSE, Gentoo, and maybe Fedora offer 64bit.

I would agree with Ozar about the 64-bit thing (but I love slack), but also I would look for a different motherboard. Only because that is using the 1600mhz Hypertransport, and they have bumped that up to 2000mhz, a noticeable increase. They may just have a new bios update for that to work, so double check. Depending on you budget, but I like getting the most for my buck, and you are getting that going with AMD as opposed to Intel. Any I would suggest getting a Socket 939 motherboard, because [1] it is going to be around a long time, and [2] is has a dual-channel memory controller. It does cost more for the Athon64 3500+ (AMDs cheapest Socket939), but might last you longer without the upgrade later down the road.

The sata hard drive might give you some trouble depending on familar/good you are with the slack installer. Bonecrusher (a member of this forum) made a sata.i bootdisk for slackware, so make sure to get that.
