Patrick Volkerding's text editor
I feel almost like a fanboy for asking this, but what text editor does Patrick Volkerding use?
And along those lines, what are his favorite tools of choice when coding?

I didn't realize he is from my area. MSU is across the river.

You should turn your questions into a poll. And whoever wins should get a free copy of Slackware 11.0
Oh, Slackware is already the best Linux distro and it's already free

Surely it'd be best to ask the man himself?

Probably.
What I'd really like to know is why anyone should care which editor PV uses.
This question is sorta like asking Linus which distro he uses.
Whatever these guys do shouldn't influence your decision in any way.

PV uses NOTEPAD, and his favorite tools for coding is Visual Studio.NET.
Nah! I am just messing around!

Well it can also be a question of what processor they are using. And how many systems they have in their rooms. hmmmm...

My inner geek tells me Mr. Volkerdin uses a Bordland product. Which is probably outdate by today's standards, but still gets the job done for open source development.

Obviously he uses (vi/emacs choose one) because only losers use (vi/emacs pick the other one).
And Linus has been quoted as using Red Hat and SuSe at different times. Last year he was using Linux on a PPC Mac, never saw the distro.
