Pat needs our Help!
 

Patrick the maintainer of Slackware and a great person needs our help. Due to his illness in the last few months Pat has accumulated a large amount of medical bills. He needs the Slackware communities help. How can you help? Well this is what Pat would like, "So, this verson is going to be wrapped up pretty quickly. I hope people will support the release, because I'm sure I'll have a lot more bills before all of this is through, and I'm blowing through what little money I've managed to save. Again, I'm not asking for donations, but I hope that when Slackware 10.1 comes out that people wanting to help out will order it." So Please buy a copy of Slackware 10.1. You'll be getting an awesome operating system and helping out our fearless leader. :)

I've been a subscriber to Slackware CDs since 9.0. Very worthwhile to have the CDs on hand. You get a nice 4 CD case with professional graphics printed on each CD including a brief statement of contents. Much nicer than burned ISOs, and the price is definitely right. I encourage everyone who uses Slackware to do the same. The subscription is about $10 off the purchase price, and you get the new version automatically as soon as the CDs are available (usually 2 weeks after release).

Maybe I'll go buy a polo shirt since I already subscribe...

That's a good idea. I'm on vacation (sort of), so I won't be home to get pictures until the weekend, but I'll try to remember to take some pictures. There really should be some on store.slackware.com so people can see what they're buying.

I will purchase this release so that I can be of some help. Hopefully others will show their support and buy the official CD's.

Same here, I downloaded 9.0 and liked it so much I subscribed. I would suggest everyone that uses Slackware to do the same.

im defently going to buy a tshirt :) and maybe if the distro was like between 1-10$ id buy it but not for 40$ sorry man but as i said i will get a shirt

I imagine that printing CDs and cases for such a small run is relatively expensive per set, so Pat probably only makes ~$20 on the sale of CDs. I have no idea what the actual figures are, but I'm surprised Pat can live off the proceeds.

The Slackware subscription is only $30 per version. I decided that's a better option for me. I want to have each new release anyway, and I can save $10 each time. The price is well worth it since I'm supporting what I consider the best Linux distro's only maintainer.

That's fine. You don't *have* to purchase the cd set. I understand not everyone can afford it. Maybe even just shooting pat an email saying how much you appreciate his work.

The CDs and jewel box cover design is really nice.

Wish I can buy them, don't have credit card yet.

I'd pay 400 dollars for Slackware Linux, as opposed to that other corporate POS.

I just bought 10.0 (I've had it for ages downloaded, but wanted the real deal) and pre-ordered 10.1. IMO the prices are not bad at all, seeing as to how you're getting an OS that is so versatile. I mean FFS you can do anything with it, run a server, set up a cluster, anything! Not only do you get that, but you get the source code!!!

I'll never pay for Windows as long as I live lol.
