partitions question
 

Im planning a slackware install on a duel boot system.

Half my disk will be a windows xp partition. In the linux half - about 10gb I want root & swap partition.

My question is this. If i dont define a partition for /home, what happens? How much space would a new user get under linux??

If you don't define a partition as /home then /home will go in the / partition. Unless you install a quota system a user can use as much space as they want up to 100% of the drives availible space.

1) Do not use a windows program to partition your drive. Wait until you use the install cd and then use disk druid or whatever comes with slackware, it's much easier than the windows programs anyways.

2) Making a partition for /root and /home is a good idea to keep them seperated. As for /home, there is no standard space requirements, but keep in mind that is where you will be saving most of your stuff, in /home/neilcpp. Make /home decently big.

/root doesn't need to be over 500mb really.

Swap should be double your ram, and when partitioning, labeled as swap.

3)Dual boot ;)
