package creation problem

Hi there,
I'm trying to make tgz packages but I'm having a weird problem : the package description does not show up. I've followed the instructions on linuxpackages.net but the description wont show up in pkgtool, at installation time and in /var/log/packages. I've even tried to do an "explodepkg" on an official package and re-making it with "makepkg". It doesn't work either.

Thanks for your help,
Rognon

does the description appear when you do an installpkg on an official (non-exploded) slackware package??

Rognon 03-24-2005 04:20 PM

Yes it does. Pkgtool also shows the description for all packages... except for the ones I make...

hmmm... okay, please post one of your build scripts so we can take a look at it...

make sure you include the slack-desc in your post...

Make sure your slack-desc file has sexactly 11 lines with the pkg name, a colon and a blank space, at least. Also make sure that the first part of the external package name is the same as the pkg name in the slack-desc file.

does this work for you now??

cuz if it's an official package the slack-desc would be spec compliant and the issue would probably be unrelated to your personal package's slack-desc issue...

Yeah it's working now. The official package that I re-compressed and that didn't worked was named test.tgz

win32sux 03-28-2005 04:56 PM

yeah, the name in slack-desc and the package name's first segment need to match in order to comply with the "slackpack spec"...

anyways, i'm glad everything is working well for you now...

let us know if you have any other questions about package creation...

good luck...
