I am running Slack 8.0 and at one time tried to install Opera
but was not lucky enough to have it running smoothly, like
Firebird which is lean and fast. So I deleted it and forgot
about it. Maybe you have better luck. Cheers!
Generally with Slack, if you can't find a Slackware Package (*.tgz) then you should compile from source (*.tar.gz)
Nowadays, Slackware can handle rpms, but when you get into dependancies and whatnot, it is more trouble than it's worth, so I'd recommend sticking with compiling from source.
I had the Slackware qt package installed (used by kde and qcad). If you have qt installed you can also use "QT Shared RedHat 8/SuSE 8.1+/Mandrake 9" as these distros used gcc 3.x.
