First thing to do is to move it to /usr/local and extract it as root:
# tar -xzvf opera[*tab*].tar.gz
It came with an install script ready, so simply run it: # ./install.sh
I put it all in the /usr/local hierarchy when asked for the directories and let it put it's config stuff in /etc for fear of messing it up.

Now I'd really like to have it on my other Linux box for the rest of the family to enjoy, but for some reason it doesn't show the thumbnails for tabs when I hover the mouse above it. Anybody else have this problem? It works perfectly on Windows 98.

I haven't updated for awhile and didn't know they now list a version for Slackware. I always suspected that one of the other shared-qt vesrions might work under slackware. Using the shared version saves a few MB on your system since it uses the qt libs installed for KDE. I don't install KDE so I still use the static version.
Interesting that the fonts are better since many users complain about the opera fonts under Linux.

Opera has had Slackware on the list at least since Opera 8, maybe earlier. But it doesn't matter- as I said before- no matter what distro you select you get the same tar unless it's RH and then you get an RPM.

In my opinion, they are just tracking statistics about how many people use the various distros.

AFAIK a system code of .6 is built to work with gcc version 4 and requires libstdc++.so.6.

I've got latest installed and working, with flash and java to. Just ran the installer as root, and I was good to go. I did have to create the symlink for the java plug-in.
