OpenTTD SlackBuild midi/music problems...
I'm having problems getting the music to work in OpenTTD.
I've installed Timidity and the freepats package, and have Timidity running in the background. This is under Slack 13.1. Anyone got any suggestions? I'm pretty sure it'll be a forehead slapper. The sound effects work, it's just the music that doesn't. |
I just installed OpenTTD myself and my music worked "out of the box". The only difference I can see is that I use Dugen Chen's timidity slackbuild. Not sure why that would make a difference but it might be worth a look. also what soundcard are you using? Also does it give you any errors when you launch from command line?

The soundcard is, I think, one of those ac97 things on the main board. It has worked on prior installations. |
This is a known issue and some suggested fixes are in the OpenTTD wiki:
http://wiki.openttd.org/FAQ_troubles...ks_really_fast None of those suggestions worked for me and I have not yet been able to find a fix. I have Timidity and friends installed on my system, and the midi files play fine when playing them with timidity directly, but for some reason they don't play in the game. You may want to try playing the midi files directly with Timidity also just to narrow down the potential cause. If you find a fix, please let me know so I can address it in the SlackBuild if necessary. I'll also be updating the SlackBuild for 1.0.1 (or 1.0.2 when RC becomes final). |
Thanks Chess.
BTW - I love sbopkg! |
Dugan Chen's slackBuild for TiMidity fixed it.

Interesting. It might be helpful if you could contact the maintainer of the Timidity SlackBuild at SlackBuilds.org and point out this thread to him. Maybe someone can compare the two SlackBuilds and see what the differences are since it seems Timidity might be the culprit in this particular case.
