OpenOffice 3.2 on Slack-current - broken icon bars

2 Attachment(s)
I decided to upgrade my OO to 3.2 ( using source + Robby's slackbuild ) and ended up with mostly missing menu bars. If you mouse over them you see the individual icons but as soon as the mouse moves on, the icons disappear. I can un-maximise/maximise a window and the icons appear but only until you mouse over them.

I've tried Robby's package as well as removing my .openoffice.org config folder but no difference. Anyone have similar issues?

( for some more info, I've also just upgraded to AlienBob's KDE 4.4. packages as well as started with a fresh .kde setup )

Oh and I forgot to say it's Slack64

It's very possible that you are missing something... like added features or moved resources/binaries/scripts.
The OpenOffice script is only a repackaging script for the official binaries. If you must have 3.2 now, I would recommend downloading both from Open Office .org and comparing the file trees and checking that everything previously included is still included as well as any additions.

i used rpm2tgz to convert all RPM files into .tgz and do the old fashioned way (removepkg ooobasis* and openoffice.org* and then installpkg *.tgz) and it worked without any problem :)

I just installed Robby's x86-64 package. I can confirm that I don't have this problem.

Ok I've found the set of circumstances that will cause this and a fix. KDE, gtk-qt-engine and OpenOffice.

You need to add

export SAL_GTK_USE_PIXMAPPAINT=1

to your ~/.kde4/env/gtk-qt-engine.rc.sh file.

Courtesy of http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=27199 ... It's strange though I didn't have the issue with KDE 4.4/OO 3.1.1 so it appears it's a bit random. The menu's don't look great but they're usable. Can everyone who has answered here indicate if they are using this combo of apps ( especially gtk-qt-engine )?

Nope. Running under KDE 4.3.1 here, with xfsettingsd handling the GTK theme and the GTK theme set to an Oxygen one (not gtk-qt-engine).

Hmmmm.... this wasn't my experience. I did exactly this but soffice wouldn't run. Did you do something else? I've installed this way for years, up to 3.1.1, but it didn't work for 3.2

What's 'Robby's SlackBuild'?

nope, just remove the old one and install the new one (don't use upgradepkg, but removepkg and installpkg). That should work
