OpenOffice 3.1

Hey all,

Anybody here who've successfully build a Slackware package out of the latest OpenOffice?

Hey,

Good stuff, only I need the danish language edition.

But it means that it is possible to build it for Slackware. Perhaps I could bug rworkman for his buildscript?

No need to bug rworkman for the SlackBuild only browse his page.
http://rlworkman.net/pkgs/sources/12.2/openoffice.org/

Or use the one on slackbuilds.org

3.1.0 will be making its way to SlackBuilds.org soon. I had hoped to wait for a few minor script enhancements based on feedback from a user, but I haven't heard back from him in a few days, so we'll go ahead and push out what we have.

TL_CLD, have a look inside the script -- it *should* support building for other languages (thanks to lots of feedback from non-english users).

On another note, I did notice a lot of missing icons in the OOo menus (the application itself, NOT the desktop menu), but I don't know if they're just missing in general (IOW, there's not supposed to be an icon) or if we don't ship an icon theme which contains the missing icons or perhaps I missed something important in the build script. Feedback on that is welcome.

Thanks a bunch! I'll have a look at the script.

I found this link: http://slackblogs.blogspot.com/2009/...o-ooo-310.html

Is this perhaps related to your icon issue?

No, my package conversion method doesn't cause that filename truncation. :-)

it was caused by the use of the old tar version, while Robby use cpio to extract the package

What does this package give, I always just download from OOO and then do an rpm2tzg and installpkg *.rpm and it seems to work fine.

Well, I can now confirm that it works flawlessly with the danish edition of OOo 3.1

Brilliant stuff. Absolutely brilliant!

Thank you very much.

I found the multilanguage installer from Slacky.eu very helpful. It was available sooner than the SlackBuilds.org script for 3.1, and it is very comfortable.

When you install it, it lets you pick your language from a list, then downloads the corresponding binary, converts it to a Slackware package and installs it. Very smooth and comfortable, and, BTW, all icons are there.

I haven't tried the SlackBuilds.org script with 3.1, so I can't tell if there's a problem with missing icons, but with earlier versions, the script worked quite well, too. It just used to require tweaking one line in the code to make it usable for non-English OOo builds. The Slacky.eu solution is just that one bit more comfortable, but both solutions are great!

Question

Two questions about 3.1, which I installed from slackbuilds.org:

1. There is a dead sym link to startcenter.desktop. Looks like the doinst.sh script installs the link, but there is no source file to actually link to. Is this a gnat of a bug?

2. Seems the "restore editing position" works only in page layout view. When opening a document saved with user attributes, that feature restores the cursor to the last editing position. If I save a Writer document in web layout view and re-open, the cursor does not automatically move/restore to the last editing position. Can some others verify/refute this please?

Appears to be a bug in the upstream binaries - I didn't add it.

Probably upstream too.

I suspected as much. Thanks.

I had found some people reporting the problem with 3.0 but not 3.1. I was hoping a few other Slackers could confirm the problem.
