I want to give a shout-out to PV and all of the great folks who make Slackware the awesome (and awe-insipiring!) distro it is today. Far from being a dinosaur, it has proven itself to be fast, stable, and uber-customizable; just the way I like it.

Eric, if you're reading this, I urge you not to take the complaints of a few and think they are indicative of all of us; nothing could be further from the truth. I, for one, am glad you take the time out of your busy schedule to keep us up on all the essential packages, like openjdk, chromium (and its attendent packages), libreoffice, and others. Not to mention that without your diligent efforts, we probably would still not have 64-bit Slackware, for which I am immensely grateful.

Keep up the good work. Thanks!

Regards,

Matt

I forgot about this old thread from 12-11-14 but I am sure the Slackware team appreciates the feedback.
Have fun & enjoy!

Cool

I know sometimes replying in old threads is frowned upon but I was searching for a place to give thanks and it popped up. Figured it was as good a place as any. So happy to have Slackware tuned and running full time on my laptop! Was thinking about diving into one of the BSDs next but don't want to get too cocky...

I am very thankful that Pat and the Slackware Team works tirelessly to create our favourite OS. I have a subscription to Slackware and I am looking forward to my 14.2 DVD.

Just so you know ...

I am a Debian user from way back. It was not my first distro, but once I discovered it I used it for EVERYTHING! And this was just about when there was only one RedHat (no Enterprise) and Ubuntu was not even a dream.

By the time I tired of the limitations of RedHat 4 (about 1998) Slack was already a word, on par with BSD and with a (very small) fanatical fan base. It stands on the same high platform with Arch. If all other groups let you down, if no one else knows "how to make it work" for your conditions, someone who works on Slack will know. It may not be what you want to run yourself, but if you can run with Slack then you can solve problems and find answers.

The core people who did the work that draw together that kind of community around a distribution can be GOLD! This is the case with Debian, with Fedora (and to a lesser but significant extent with CentOS), with Arch, and with Slack. Those people do deserve recognition from more than the immediate community, but from all of us who use and love Linux. These people make our world a better place.

You can get one at the Slackware store, it will support Pat Volkerding's work:

+1 from my little corner as well

really, people do have an annoying habit of "expecting"

I have learned _so_ much by using this distro since v.7, and I have been planting seeds for the future by using it on the laptops that I have provided for my students for the past 15 years...big thanks PV&Team

I am not a developer, nor a package maintainer, but I am probably a somewhat advanced user. I have used Slackware since the first distribution, and while I have had to use other distros for work projects, and for some of my projects, Slackware is my first choice. At this moment I have nearly two dozen computers running some form of Slackware.

PV, Eric and countless others, many of whom I am not even aware of, have added dimension to my life, given me something meaningful to fuss over, and sometimes loaded me with lunchtime talk for glass-eyed windoze appliance users. Simply put, it has been fun, and I look forward to more fun down the road.

Will someone just tell me when Slackware 15 comes out so that I can set aside a weekend for upgrades? (grin, smile, wink)

Thanks to all who have made some effort on the great distribution of Slackware and the supporting environment!!!

Thumbs up Thank you all!

Don't remember what was my first slack, but it came on floppies...

And I've seen a lot of other distros, but never an overall experience like slackware's.

Thank you!
