only seeing half my memory being initialized?

Code:
loki@kelly:/usr/local/hldsroot/hlds1$ free
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 904340 898932 5408 0 2564 58752
-/+ buffers/cache: 837616 66724
Swap: 2097136 232564 1864572
Hi, I'm new here!

I have 2GB (2048MB) of ECC memory which comes up at post but when I do a top or free, it shows only 904340, about half of the total. Can anyone give me some pointers?

Also, do I have to recompile my kernel for SMP support?

Thanks

You will have to recompile your kernel with highmem support in order for more than... I can't remember the exact number but it is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1GB max that it detects without it.

In the kernel menu, the processor type and features category, you should see high memory support. I'd set it to 4GB.
