Only one sound playing in Toshiba NB200 (HDA Intel/Realtek ALC272)

Hey there, this is my first post so sorry if I did something wrong.

I did a recent install of Slackware 13.1 in my Toshiba NB200 netbook and everything is running good, except the sound. I can listen to only one audio stream from one software. If YouTube (Firefox) is playing a video, audacious won't play, and vice-versa.

I did some research but I didn't find a solution for this problem.

Audio device for lspci command:

I'm using Alsa. In alsamixer it says my card is a HDA Intel and Realtek ALC272 chip.

I acknowledge that this must be an Alsa problem, but how can I fix it? Will it be necessary to change from Alsa to OSS? What are the benefits and what I'm going to lose with this change?

Thank you for your patience.

Solved:
This was actually a software problem. Alsa was working properly, but a few softwares (such as audacious, XMMS and gxine) were using, for some reason, OSS. I changed the softwares to use Alsa and now I can listen multiple audio streams using different softwares.

You may also encounter a small issue about every system startup, when your speaker volume in alsamixer is muted, giving the impression that the sound isn't working. just unmute it everytime you boot your system and that's ok.
Alternatively, you may want to add the mixer on your panel and unmute with just a few clicks.

Run alsamixer as your normal user in the terminal and adjust the volumes as you see fit. Then run `alsactl store` as root. This will set default volumes for all of the sliders that are loaded each time ALSA is started.

Glad to hear that you otherwise solved your problem.

You are correct. This fixed the issue permanently.
Thank you.
