On dell 810 latitude Laptop framebuffer problem

When combiling kernel with framebuffer support for nvidia geforce lilo is unable to printcap resolutions higher than 640X480 and since laptops must have the same resolution in X and in console mode to avoid LCD fry there seems to be no way of setting up X.
The most wierd thing that is happening is that when the framebuffer sypport is set up as compatible Vesa Vga the resolution in console mode can reach up to 1024 x 768.
But X is still unable to run and screen flickers. The Lcd 's optimum resolution is 1600X1280. And this is the resolution i want to have in console mode.

Did you get the latest NVIDIA drivers? I know after installing them you have to enable the loading of a couple kernel modules. I haven't done this in a while. I'll be more help next week when I install slackware on my Inspiron 2650 (in transit).
