hi guys followed this guide from here:
https://pkgs.org/slackware-14.1/slac..._64-1.txz.html

and downloaded the file:
okular-4.10.5-x86_64-1.txz

and ran this command in the same directory where the downloaded file was:
upgradepkg --install-new okular-4.10.5-x86_64-1.txz

it seemed to install

i have okular icon in applications menu / office (xfce)

Did you do a full install of Slackware? If so, okular should already be there and all its dependencies.

It will not matter if using it under Xfce, it will work just the same.

What version of Slackware and maybe you should get the actual Slackware okular package instead of from a third party repo. For Slackware64 14.1 it is here: okular-4.10.5-x86_64-1.txz.

Okular runs fine for me on Slackware64-current and Slackware64 14.1. I'm using full installs of Slackware and XFCE.

My guess is he didn't install KDE when he installed Slackware. (Can't really blame him, after all, I unchecked XFCE and some other things I didn't need.) In which case, slackpkg install kde will do it.

Not a huge deal but I disagree since Full Install is RECOMMENDED for a very good reason - to avoid dependency issues just like this. There is no animosity in the blame, but seriously... who doesn't have an hdd in excess of 20GB anymore? To be completely fair 100GB may be a more realistic minimum for very active people but people commonly give away hdds smaller than 250GB. I see brand name hdds of 1TB for ~$45.00 USD brand new. Disc space just really shouldn't be an issue big enough to create problems for yourself.

Maybe you know this already, but I'll add it in case others do not.

If you are missing dependencies, you can use slackpkg like so:

Code:
$ slackpkg file-search libkparts.so.4

DONE

The list below shows the packages that contains "libkparts\.so\.4" file.

[ Status ] [ Repository ] [ Package ]
   installed kdelibs-4.14.18-x86_64-1

You can search specific packages using "slackpkg search package".

Indeed. We offer support for full installations of Slackware to avoid situations like this. No disrespect intended to the original poster. As a user gains experience with Slackware he/she can pare down their installation.
Slackware works out of the box with all dependencies met when you do a full installation.

I'm not saying I recommend it in general, but it is what I do. Slackware's division of packages into groups makes it easy to skip some if you know you don't need them. I just prefer not to have a bunch of extra stuff on my system that I know I will never use, especially things that will end up in the application menu.

A FULL install of Slackware with KDE is less than 10GB if memory serves... 240-10 still leaves 230GB... a 10GB full install is still a pretty small slice of your SSD.

Not sure how big all the KDE stuff is.. but I would bet it is a small slice of the total 10GB. Maybe 1GB if that... not sure the minor space saving is worth the missing dependencies.

I do a full install, with KDE, even though I use XFCE.

Glad you got it working! I did not realize you only had 30GB to use for Slackware... even so you really save so little by not doing a full install.

I have an Acer Chrome-book running a full install of Slackware and it only has a 16GB SSD! It works fine as pretty much all my files are stored online somewhere. The "extra" 6GB just sits there unused.
