Oh my!

I don't know how long that specific wikipedia page has been available, but I don't recall so much history being available in one page. Somebody has been busy, for sure. :)

I can't help but question the author's opening sentence. As well as Wikipedia's definition of FOSS. Could the lack of capitalization in "free" be explained by anything other than ignorance? I'm also pretty sure a certain bearded MIT grad would like to interject at this point. ;-)

Well, at least it's correct in some way technically.

jefro 08-06-2013 10:10 PM

They forgot the fantastic zipslack.

And it's also gobbledygook and gibberish as it provides a definition for words by using those exact words.

Free means free! And means and! Open-source software means open source software!

I need more coffee,

You folks are weird. :) I mean, WTF? I started the thread not to encourage gnat's ass critiques, but simply to note the page contains a lot of historical information in one spot. Some folks put forth a lot of effort to create that page. I'm impressed with such an effort.

For those who are not interested in pulling hair's from the gnat's ass, or don't need twelve cups of coffee to get through the day, please read the wiki page and enjoy. :)

P.S. If there are errors then fix them for crissake and allow the rest of us to smell the roses. Jeez. :banghead:

I responded with a link to the history of that wiki since you queried unknown dates.

You can always expect criticism from someone. No one attacked or flamed, just pointing out misinformation or errors. Sure some should participate by either editing or adding to the Slackware wiki if they feel the need. :)

I only need one cup, a 16 ounce will do the job. ;)

I love roses!

I found the rather sparse first entry, 19:41, 7 October 2001 amusing.

Slackware is a very good Linux distribution, many people say "When you know Slackware, you know Linux... when you know RedHat, all you know is Redhat".

Slackware latest stable version is 8.0 at the moment of writting this, which include XFree86 4.1.0, Linux kernels 2.2.19 and 2.4.5, KDE 2.1.2, GNOME 1.4, glibc 2.2.3, and all the usual utilities. Additions include ProFTPD, OpenSSH and OpenSSL, mod_ssl and mod_php, full support for the 2.4 kernel series, and many more.

There is also a -current version that can be used if you like bleeding edge.

You don't have to be weird to run Slackware, but it helps. :)
Praise "Bob" for our weirdness!

gnashley 08-08-2013 06:16 AM

"need twelve cups of coffee" I'm hurt there as I need five in the morning just to pronounce my name. The rest I don't really need -I could quit anytime, but I do enjoy them anyway...

Very likely. Just ask my wife, she will confirm your suspicions. :)
