Hi,

I am trying to uncompress a tar file on a Slack 9.0 machine with reiserfs file system.

I am obtaininga message that say: Archive contains obsoesent base -64 headers

Problem now solved
 
Hi,

The problem was solved with folloving actions:

1 Cleaned the CD-disk

2 Rebooted the machine

It has been my experience that when tar gives this message that the data stream is corrupted, file corrupted, or just not a tar archive. Could also be possible if the file is compressed then it would be attempting to extract from compressed data. You could try using the -j or -z option for decompressing if that might be possible. Usually if the file has an extension of "tar.gz" then it is gzipped compressed and you need to use the -z option. If "tar.bz2" then bzip2 compressed and then use the -j option.
