nVidia RIVA TNT2 Model 64 (32MB PCI Card) -driver download link??-
 

Does anyone know a place I can find drivers for this particular card? I am running Slackware 8.1 (no time to update yet) and I just put this card in about a month ago, haven't been successful in finding drivers yet... and the ones that the nVidia website has won't work (read the readme's multiple times).

If anyone knows it would be GREATLY apprecieted for a link!!

Well, you can always use the "nv" driver included with XFree86 4.x to get this card to work without any acceleration. However, the drivers from the nVidia site should work with this card. It's hard to say why they aren't working for you without any more information. I don't know of any alternative to using the unaccelerated XFree86 drivers or the drivers from nVidia.

Read the posting for installing nvidia driver in here. Do a search of nvidia.

That is what I did, and I got the driver up and running.

Just want to emphasize on one point. Get a clean kernel from slackware.com, get the kernel header, kernel-ide, and kernel-modules aswell. Well let me repeat the obvious, get all of those at same patch level. (2.4.22, works fine for me).

Hi,

Nvidia are very good at supportingtheir hardware under linux.

if you go to the nvidia website , www.nvidia.com, go to the downloads section and they offer a linux driver for all of their graphics cards.

You don't own an nForce motherboard, do you?

Go and try to play two aounds at the same time on one of these and you'll know what I mean. Or try and netinstall Debian onto one (although this is mostly Debian's fault, they can include the right driver if they want to but they choose not to). Admittedly, nVidia support their hardware under Linux a lot better than some other vendors but it's not perfect and there are still a couple of huge gaps.

Oh, and avoid the "Linux and FreeBSD Drivers" link on their site like the plague, it's almost never updated in a timely manner and you'll have better luck using the three panels just below it

I don't know what problems you're having, but I'll give you some encouragement since I'm running a TNT2 M64 here with the nvidia drivers from www.nvidia.com.

Comment out "dri" and "GLCore" if they exist from your XF86Config (or XF86Config-4) file, uncomment glx, rename the device from "nv" to "nvidia", and it should work. When it works starting or restarting X will get you the nvidia logo. If you want/need more help than that you'll have to be more specific.

One additional note. There is no reason you should have to compile a new kernel to use the nVidia drivers, but you do need to have the source code for the kernel you are using installed on your system. With Slackware 8.1 it is installed by default if you pick an "everything" install. Otherwise, you can just install the Slackware package for the source from your CD or download it from the Internet.

On the XF86Config, I configured the Module Section as instructed and then even added the wanted resolutions on the Screen section as below! But still getting only resolution 800x600!!!!
