Nvidia GTX 750 and Nouveau don't like each other.
Hello slackers. I upgraded my video card from a Geforce 440GT to a GTX 750, both using Nvidia graphic chips. The actual install went smooth and my existing Slackware OS didn't have any problems although there were several new error messages about not recognizing some ports but it still booted and everything seemed find. I had install Nvidia drivers in the past. Well over the 4th, I decided to move Slackware to a new partition and doing a new install. The Slackware install went without a hitch but upon the first boot into my newly created account, my screen files up with nouveau errors during boot and freezes. I did several installs but I can't get pass the nouveau freeze upon my first login. Doing some research, I find info that nouveau doesn't have a working open-source driver for GTX 750 hence the errors. Is there a method that I can put in my LILO/GRUB boot headers to bypass nouveau drivers and checks so that I can install Nvidia drivers? The only solution I'm thinking is to re-install my Geforce 440GT. Install Slackware. Install Nvidia drivers and then replace 440GT with GTX 750 afterwards. I would welcome an easier solution.

When you see LILO's greeting screen, instead of just pressing [Enter] press [Tab] and type this command line:
the press [Enter]
Once logged in (at runlevel 3 even if that was not the default), get and instal the blob.

It worked. More specifically I inserted the following: append = "nomodeset" in /etc/lilo.conf, ran lilo, rebooted and I was able to get past the nouveau errors during boot up. Now I can install Nvidia drivers.
Thanks

I have a gtx750Ti, I had some interesting times figuring out the same procedure as Didier's advice, but struggled through on my own (would have been better had I asked here). Be aware, though, that you will want to be sure that the version of the blob supports the gtx750... I'm not clear that the one listed for the SBo package is (actually, I'm pretty sure it isn't). I'm currently running 337.25 right now and I'm very pleased with the performance. Also, the new long lived branch version, 340.24, supports it. I used the SBo slackbuilds to install both the X driver and the kernel module, I just edited the SlackBuild scripts for the version.

Thanks for the update. I was looking over the two options in slackwiki regarding Nvidia driver installation and thought not using slackbuilds was too complicated and I would screw things up bad, but you suggestion makes it seem simple. I will give it a try.

My GTX 750 is working mighty fine now. To re-iterate, I did the following.
1) Insert the nomodeset in lilo.conf to get Slackware to boot up with GTX 750 installed.
2) Blacklisted nouveau and installed Nvidia drivers via Slackbuild scripts, no alterations.
3) Used the # nvidia-installer --update command to update driver to the latest version.
I did have some video tearing (using KDE) but the ForceCompositionPipeline fixed it.
