I upgraded to X.org with no problems using swaret. I then (unreleated to this), recompiled my kernel and as I always do after recompiling, I installed the NVIDIA drivers again. Well when I startx, the screen gets all blurry and I have to hit the reset button as it freezes. Is this an issue with the NVIDIA drivers and X.org??
UPDATE: I reinstalled all my X11 packages via swaret and I can get into gnome now. So everytime I reinstall the NVIDIA drivers I have to reinstall X.org? Has anyone run into such a thing yet?
The thing here is to check whether you are using the proper xorg.conf (you can simply rename your old /etc/X11/XF86Config to xorg.conf).
You will need to reinstall the NVidia drivers after you install Xorg. I didn't do that on my first try and running glxgears crashed my X session.
After reinstalling the NVidia drivers, glxgears works as normal, and there's no frame drop, at least noticable ones. I also ran Quake 3 Arena for about 15 minutes to see if there's any hardware acceleration problems... thank God, there's no problems at all and the game runs smoothly.
So far, I've used Xorg for three days without any crashes.
As stated just edit your xorg.conf file to change driver to 'nvidia' (it probably read 'nv' or 'vesa' before). I had this same type of problem on a fedora core 2 box. If you dont already know FC2 runs a 2.6 kernel; this was the problem. Many people have had serious issues when using nvidia drivers on this kernel, in fact, my system froze up. Just wait a while for nvidias drivers to mature and the coders to improve support for 2.6.
