nvidia driver problem

I did my best to be the first guy on the block with Linux 2.6.16. However, I could not get the nvidia module to compile with it. I hadn't seen anyone else post with this...yet. Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm using NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8178 driver with zander's cumulative patch
(NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-8178-U012206.diff.txt ) on kernel-2.6.16.
